FOOTBALL
First off, BYU is legit, and QB Zach Wilson is legit (although I have issues with his game as an NFL prospect, but let’s put that aside so we can enjoy college football’s biggest disruption agent in full).
That being said, I didn’t get the watchlist out the last two weeks. Work (new job!) been in the way, but we got through quite a bit of 2021 NFL Draft prospects prior with plenty to review anyway. And since I dropped my draft stock for each prospect we’ve covered last time, we’ve got a decent amount of the draft already slotted.
So here’s my three to check out today (we’ll recap previous prospects next week):
Michigan EDGE Kwity Paye
(#23 Michigan @ #13 Indiana (!), FOX Sports 1, 12pm ET/9am PT)
(no you read that right, #13 Indiana)
Paye might be best suited as a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 DE, but he’s not a 3-4 OLB. Which is to say, this is a bit of anti-Rams scouting here. Paye could be a first-round pick which might be the Rams’ hope.
I thought I had singled out Texas EDGE Joseph Ossai before, but apparently my memory failed me. In any case, Ossai is a very good edge rushing prospect who might fall to the Rams in the 2nd round (again, might). As things stand, and obviously we’re still months out from the combine, Ossai could be the Rams’ top prospect on their board in a very hypothetical situation.
In that situation, having him pushed down to them in the 2nd would require Paye to certify himself as an attractive quantity in the top 50. He’s already done that, but the more he adds to that the better in that hypothetical. And even beyond that, the opportunity for the Rams to have their pick on the edge would be buttressed by Paye’s departure.
As fun as Indiana has been to this point, they’re obviously beatable. Paye could go off.
Worth tuning into early especially given the competing options.
Georgia EDGE Azeez Ojulari
(#8 Florida v.* #5 Georgia, CBS, 3:30pm ET/12:30pm PT)
* - Game to be played at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, FL
World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party!
But the situation here is the same as above. This kid’s good. If he declares and convinces, he could go top-16.
Didn’t deal against Alabama’s OL, but LT Alex Leatherwood (who could go top 16 himself) and RT Evan Neal are perhaps the best tackle combo in the country.
Same boat for pushing developmental edge rushers (think a plus Ogbonnia Okoronkwo) to the Rams in the mid-rounds.
Clemson DE Myles Murphy
(#1 Clemson @ #4 Notre Dame, NBC, 7:30pm ET/4:30pm PT)
Fine, let’s go deep Let’s say you’re not interested in adding an edge rusher early on next offseason willing to lean into a triad of Okoronkwo, Leonard Floyd and Terrell Lewis for 2021. You likely have company.
But we’re talking about the position, along with left tackle, occupying 1B on the value chart below QB populating 1A on its own. At some point, following an era in which the Rams spent heavily in the draft to fill, a premium investment in an edge rusher is going to be required Aaron Donald or not.
And yes, memes allowed. But the Rams are currently scheduled to own a 2022 NFL Draft first-round pick which would be the first first-round selection under HC Sean McVay in what would be his sixth year as head coach.
All of that and not a word about Murphy, a true freshman who is second on the team in tackles and leading the #1 team in the country in sacks. Kinda nice!
Obviously doesn’t have a ton of tape, but ND is the best pre-playoff test for him after all of seven games in his career. Clemson has it tough without 2021 NFL Draft #1 overall pick QB Trevor Lawrence who remains in quarantine due contracting COVID-19 replaced by Los Angeles area-native QB D.J. Uiagalelei who is going to be a thing next year with perhaps the biggest arm in college football even when he tested against Justin Fields before Fields went to Georgia and then transferred to Ohio State…
Long sentence. Longer toss.
Anywho, get this one in.
FOOD
Short one. Garlic butter sauce. Key is to keep the heat low. Don’t get the garlic cooked through too much. You’re almost steeping the garlic. This one gets a similar sauce to what you get with escargots Bourguignonne which are one of the best appetizers on Earth especially if you got that good bread to soak up the garlic butter.
Sure, that’s fine as an app by itself, but the sauce? Tons of applications that work for almost any palate.
FUCKERY
I know it’s Election Week (that’s not a thing), but if you’ve made it this far and thousands of yall will let’s just get it out.
1.) The most obvious thing about the election is how desperate we are. We’re pratically begging for change, for disruption, for improvement, for support. And both parties continue to game the system to avoid it and just work off a value system that is built on being against more than being for. The biggest reason Joe Biden is going to win this Presidential election (and the reason he won the primary in the first place) has nothing to do with Joe Biden and everything to do with Donald Trump. And the reason we elected Donald Trump in the first place had nothing to do with Donald Trump and everything to do with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
We keep electing people to siphon grievances that have no interest in doing so because (a) they don’t run on that and (b) we don’t punish them for the opposite.
We have to find a way to do better for ourselves, and we have nobody to blame but ourselves.
2.) We’ve reached a point in our political build where we’ve created a binary partisan system that is largely built around the difference between urban and rural cultures. This is unsustainable.
On one hand, urban environments are growing in population much, much, much faster than rural ones. That means Democrats will continue to enjoy the benefit of larger quantitative support, but it also means they will grow complacent in as much.
On the other had, Republicans will bury themselves in the minority moreso than they already have. They don’t need to win the popular vote for the Presidency as they proved in Trump’s and George W. Bush’s first term. They don’t need to win the Senatorial popular vote as they have proven frequently. And they certainly don’t need to win the Representative popular vote if the previous two factors are maintained.
That combination will only motivate the to continue to stymie voting and ratfuck the voting process while Democrats feel unmotivated to push for systemic change.
Which is a recipe for continued shittiness all around. Yay.
3.) Donald Trump’s a racist, sexist, fascist, self-aggrandizing pussy ass bitch who empowers sycophants and disempowers wise acolytes at the cost of our national strength. Get the hell up on outta there, ya bum.
